Senior Early Reading Program Specialist
Johanna Tramantano is a Senior Educational Consultant and the Senior Early Reading Program Specialist for Teaching Matters. She provides professional development to teachers and administrators as an Early Reading Matters coach through a collaborative and data-informed approach. She also leads a partnership project between Teaching Matters and New Visions for Public Schools to support schools through the development of a data tool that will provide school-based educators with valuable and timely information to facilitate decision-making around instruction and interventions required by students so they can become successful readers.
Prior to joining the Teaching Matters team, Johanna served as the Director of Literacy/ELA and Reading for Grades K-12 for a large urban district, and also worked as a teacher, literacy coach, and assistant principal in New York City. As a school administrator, she guided teachers in inquiry work surrounding best practices, analysis of data to plan for student needs, and standards-based curriculum development. She also planned and facilitated professional development opportunities to staff across the content areas.
Johanna holds a B.A. in British Literature from Hunter College, an M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, an M.S. Ed. degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose, and is currently a PhD student at NYU-Steinhardt in the Department of Teaching and Learning focusing her studies on literacy education.
