Tyra L. Williams

Senior Educational Consultant

Tyra L. Williams is a Senior Educational Consultant at Teaching Matters. She has dedicated her life to working towards educational equity and excellence for underserved communities across NYC and the surrounding areas. With over 25 years of experience as an educator in urban, public schools, Tyra has served in various educational roles including elementary and middle school teacher, middle and high school assistant principal, and K-8, middle and high school principal for both public and charter schools. She works tirelessly, using culturally responsive sustaining practices as the foundation of her work, to close the achievement gap in urban education. In her role prior to coming to Teaching Matters, Tyra founded a charter high school in The Bronx and supported the school with a 95% graduation rate for its first senior class. She has a proven record of successfully using data to increase proficiency rates in both literacy and math for grades K-12. She is a proud native New Yorker and received her BA from SUNY Albany, her MS from Fordham University in Elementary Education and an MS in Administration and Supervision from The College of New Rochelle with an extension in Staff Development.
