Virtual Instructional Coach
Addy Salau (she/her) is an Instructional Coach at Teaching Matters with a passion for Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education. As a lifelong creative problem solver and Brooklyn native, Addy brings with her a diversity of experiences as an educator, professional songwriter and community organizer. After graduating from Harvard University, Addy launched her career as a secondary math educator at an underserved Title 1 public school in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Her tenure equipped her with the lens to empower her students to use their personal and cultural stories as assets in their learning experiences. Grounded by the belief that all students deserve safe spaces in order to grow and learn, Addy empowers teachers with the mindset to challenge the antiquated, racist and rigid traditional education system. By supporting teachers with engaging students across diverse backgrounds in meaningful and rigorous asset-based learning experiences, Addy provides collaborative sustained support grounded in empathy, action and possibility.
In addition to her experience as a classroom educator, Addy has experience in one on one coaching, secondary math curriculum writing, professional development training, curriculum adoption negotiation and culturally responsive education strategy for schools and districts. Addy also enjoys a part-time career as a professional songwriter and local NYC community organizer that helps to keep her balanced in her work!
