Octavia Nixon is a Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters with an expertise in Literacy. In her position she provides school leaders and teachers with sufficient tools and guidance to leverage data and strategically inform instructional teaching and planning practices for the betterment and success of all students. Octavia also has experience creating and revising literacy based curricula in addition to developing UDL and standards-aligned curriculum materials for the Office of the State of Education in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Octavia served as an ELA and special education teacher, virtual and school-based instructional coach. She also served as a Literacy Consultant alongside the New Jersey Department of Education and supported their efforts in successfully declassifying the priority status of a middle school within the Plainfield school district.
Octavia earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in psychology from the University of Massachusetts- Boston, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, and an Educational Supervisor Certification from Kean University.
