he/him/his

Nick Siewert is a Senior Educational Consultant at Teaching Matters. His areas of interest and expertise include formative assessment practice, mastery learning, school leadership and instructional technology integration. His work has lead to the founding of Teaching Matters’ Assessment Matters Community, a networked improvement community of 40 schools across New York working together to build assessment informed climates in schools. His work in schools proceeds from the deeply held belief that accurate and thoughtful assessment of student progress is a teacher’s most important job and the nexus of the social justice mission of schools.

The son of passionate New York public school educators (a high school AP and a kindergarten teacher), he has been immersed in the public education discussion for as long as he can remember. He returned to New York to work at Teaching Matters in 2010 after a 15 year career as an English and social studies teacher in middle and high schools across the country. He has taught in Colorado, California, Florida and New Jersey. He has also served in schools as an academic dean, a staff developer, a communications director and a major gifts officer. He holds a BA and an MA in English from Middlebury College, and an EdM in Technology, Innovation and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
