Daniel Mejias is a Senior Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters with an expertise in middle school mathematics. Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Daniel served as a math instructional coach for 9 years at a public charter school in Harlem, a middle school math teacher for 4 years at a Department of Education school in the Bronx, and a high school math teacher for 7 years at two different private schools in New Jersey.
Daniel brings to the Teaching Matters community more than a decade’s worth of experience supporting New York City schools and teachers to provide math instruction that is both supportive and challenging. He helps schools and teachers to provide appropriately rigorous instruction by designing curriculum that is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, creating assessments and using the data to drive instruction, providing concrete feedback based on classroom observations, facilitating planning meetings to develop long and short term plans, and implementing various types of internal professional development opportunities. His more recent experience has focused on the culture of math classrooms by integrating growth mindset work, social emotional learning, culturally responsive-sustaining education, and trauma informed instruction into academic instruction to better develop the whole child.
