Benjamin Bailey

Benjamin Bailey is a Senior Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters with an expertise in secondary mathematics. In this role, Benjamin works with teachers on developing their planning, instructional and assessment practices. These developments in practice are rooted in the equitable philosophy that teachers are cultivators of classroom cultures in which students feel welcomed as a member of the learning community. This is accomplished by valuing students’ knowledge and cultural backgrounds so that they may better engage with the curriculum. Benjamin’s track record of success in New York City public schools has shown his capacity to build strong relationships and achieve the goals set by the teams with which he works.

Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Benjamin taught secondary mathematics in both Durham, North Carolina and New York, NY, totaling over ten years of experience. During this time, he also worked with the masters students in mathematics education at Teachers College, Columbia University and spent time as an instructional coach with in-service teachers. Additionally, Benjamin is an adjunct instructor of mathematics at the Fashion Institute of Technology where he explores the intersection mathematics and the art of design. During his free time, he enjoys yoga, biking, and walks with his dog.

He earned his BA in Business Finance and his Master’s in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from North Carolina State University. He is now finishing a PhD in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
