Senior Educational Consultant

Johanna is a Senior Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters. Prior to joining the Teaching Matters team, she served as the Director of Literacy/ELA and Reading for Grades K-12 for a large urban district, and also worked as a teacher, literacy coach, and assistant principal in New York City. As a school administrator, Johanna guided teachers in inquiry work surrounding best practices, analysis of data to plan for student needs, and supported teachers in standards-based curriculum development.  She also planned and facilitated professional development opportunities to staff across the content areas. She has worked in the field of education for over seventeen years, and is passionate about literacy education and developing administrator and teacher capacities to leverage student performance outcomes.

Johanna enjoys providing professional development to teachers and administrators through a collaborative and data-informed approach. She holds a B.A. in British Literature from Hunter College, an M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, an M.S. Ed. degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose, and is currently a PhD student at NYU-Steinhardt in the Department of Teaching and Learning focusing her studies on literacy education.
