Program Residency for Tech-Rich Schools

Comprehensive support for school-wide change

Teaching Matters’ Program Residency is a year-long professional development model for schools eager to combine rigorous curricula with innovative technology and expert support in the classroom. This three-prong approach to success includes: baseline assessment, onsite coaching and offsite learning experiences.

Planning and Assessment

Beginning with interviews, classroom observations and a collection of initial student work samples, an assessment of a school’s current environment will be developed to inform ongoing school planning.

Teaching Matters will:

  • Establish a baseline for ongoing assessment
  • Facilitate a school planning process
  • Establish instructional goals coordinated with the school’s Literacy and Social Studies curriculum maps
  • Create a year-long professional development plan

Onsite Coaching

Building teacher capacity to use technology for student achievement is critical to 21st Century success.

Teaching Matters will:

  • Provide 40 days of onsite coaching to improve writing and social studies instruction
  • Offer access to our Literacy (Writing Matters) and Social Studies (Voices and Choices) programs
  • Provide one-on-one mentoring
  • Facilitate teacher study groups

Offsite Learning Experience

The sharing of ideas and best practices is an important aspect in adult learning. Likewise, recognizing achievement through the celebration of student work is key to academic success.

Teaching Matters will:

  • Conduct hands-on teacher institutes
  • Host culminating events for students including a Spoken Word event, Town Meetings and Student Civil Rights Summits.

All units include teacher institutes and culminating events for students in addition to onsite professional development support. Teaching Matters’ Program Residency permits participating schools access to all Teaching Matters’ programs and associated events for students.
