Balanced Literacy: An Overview

Welcome to Teaching Matters' Promising Practices Guide: Balanced Literacy and Technology in the Elementary Classroom.  This guide presents practical ways to use your computers, the Internet and commonly available software to advance reading and writing instruction in your elementary classroom.

Ideas and lessons featured here are the result of a collaboration between Teaching Matters' professional development mentors and New York City teachers from ten public elementary schools in the 2003 - 2004 school year.

We would like to thank our ten participating schools who have been willing to take on the challenge of introducing new tools and approaches to their classrooms.
