Leadership and Technology

Technology is changing the way school leaders support and communicate with teachers, students, peers, and parents. Teaching Matters offers a variety of programs to assist school leaders in keeping up with the latest in school-based computer systems, web-based instructional units, and guidelines for successful technology integration.

A New Kind of Learning for School Leaders

The Connected Principal

The Connected Principal is a yearly program that prepares New York City public school principals and assistant principals to meet challenges related to teaching and learning in the 21st century.

The goal of The Connected Principal is to provide school leaders with a “big picture” view of educational technology as it relates to their administrative, supervisory, and instructional responsibilities. More specifically, through their participation, New York City school leaders acquire technology skills associated with school management and instruction. Skills addressed are aligned with national technology standards for school leaders and include:
  • Modeling the routine, intentional, and effective use of technology
  • Accessing and using data in making leadership decisions
  • Using technology for communication and collaboration among colleagues, staff, parents, students, and the larger community
  • Identifying appropriate technologies to enhance and support instruction for high-level achievement
The Connected Principal is delivered in two ways – face-to-face and live-online – in order to provide individuals with maximum flexibility in terms of scheduling.

School leaders can participate in The Connected Principal. They can log into this unique online community from home, from the office, or from anywhere.
