> Kathy Schrock: Copyright and Fair Use - what can you use?

In order to do a good interview it is important to really understand the subject you are going to ask questions about.

Start your research by writing what you already know about the topic. Then decide what further research is needed. Use this KWL-H chart to get started (adobe .pdf)

Once you know what kind of information you are looking for you can start to research it. Some great sources to look for information are:

Search Engines:

History / Cultural Websites:

**Remember to document and site all your sources.

Preparing for the First Interview

Before you put together your questions for the interview, first identify:

  1. the event or events that start the story (the beginning)
  2. the complications that arise during the course of the story (the middle)
  3. the event or events that conclude the story (the ending)

Then you can start to ask the "Who, What, Where, Why and How" questions. Remember to ask open-ended questions rather than questions that elicit simple "yes/no" responses.

Tip: Get personal. Ask for personal feelings/reactions to events.

Tip: Ask follow-up questions to elicit details and clarify understanding of events.

You will be assigned a role at this point for the rest of the project.
