Meredith Leonard comes to Teaching Matters with a decade of experience in urban teaching, coaching, and curriculum development. Meredith began her education career teaching middle school ELA in DC Public Schools. During this time, she crafted district wide common core aligned ELA curriculum and served as an Instructional Coach, working closely with teachers in all content areas on curricular and pedagogical best practices. In addition to her instructional expertise, Meredith served on leadership teams as a Culture Coach, supporting the culture needs of school communities and coaching teachers and teacher teams to foster student led, collaborative classrooms. Most recently, she worked on common core curriculum and its implementation as the Literature Curriculum Specialist for a national charter network. Each educational capacity Meredith has served in has cultivated her interests in curriculum development, coaching teachers and teacher teams, and creating positive classroom environments. She was recognized for her work when she received New Teacher of the Year in 2008 under then chancellor, Michelle Rhee. Meredith is committed to continuing to support teachers, leaders, and school communities to provide all students with a high quality education.
