Lance Ozier-Ed.D.

Lance Ozier is a Senior Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters with an expertise in assessment, as well as elementary & secondary school literacy. In this position, he supports educators in using data to strengthen the literacy skills and assessment strategies of students across the content areas. Lance also has extensive experience designing participant-centered workshops and highly effective teacher professional development.

Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Lance was a classroom teacher and literacy coach in elementary, middle and secondary public schools in Atlanta and NYC. Previously Lance was the Senior Literacy Specialist at the Institute for Student Achievement, a division of the Educational Testing Service. At ISA he led a Carnegie Corporation pilot program to include growth mindset and non-cognitive skills in academic instruction. Lance has also been a consultant for Stanford University’s Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE). He has taught courses at Teachers College and Bank Street College, and is currently on the faculty at the City University of New York.

Lance holds a BA in Elementary Education from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, a MA in Sociology and Education, as well as his M.Ed and Ed.D in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
